July 12, 2021 — Author “LandSpeed” Louise Ann Noeth (LSL) has asked all the women included in her newly released book to join her for both big bash book signings. Thus far, some 20 gals have confirmed for each event! Some are racing, or coming to the salt just to help inscribe a special speed marker in the historical timeline. The RSVP’s keep coming in.
“I not only want to see you all there,” explains author Noeth. “But I want you to see each other, meet each other, learn about each other and connect with each other — without being enfolded into other duties, responsibilities, or conflicts.”
When this book project began, LSL was certain she could track down about 150 gals in helmets and record books over 70 years. The book went to press with 307 names, but she is still collecting data and names of those left out for whatever reason. The number now exceeds 320 but with much certifying and verifying to do be done. Only those names that can “pass the detail muster” are included.
This is a story that needed to be told. Scarcely has anything been said or written about the talented and dedicated women who – for decades — have been involved in this amateur sport. I have been attending Bonneville events since 1967, yet I had no idea women were excluded from racing down the track! I assumed all racers were welcomed. Wow! What an eye opener! My sincere congrats to Louise and the brave women who would not accept their gender as a limitation!

“When we are all dead 50 years this book will remain a solid reference tool and historical pointer,” LSL noted. “It is with great pleasure I can report that Joy Houston, the first woman to strap on a helmet and vie for a land speed record will join me at both book signings. So PLEASE come and add your signatures in every book! “
By early August, a limited number of signed copies available at the West Wendover Welcome Center. Cash Only. A few copies of this new book, as well as her book released late last year, 100-year picture book tome, Bonneville Salt Flats, will be available purchase at the Historic Wendover Airfield gift shop.
Once again, LandSpeed Louise has collected reliable historic information and packaged it into a great little book, “Women of Land Speed Racing.” Her research is impeccable and trustworthy. This book shows us that Bonneville racing welcomes all people of diverse backgrounds and experience – all who share a love of speed!

The book signings are being made better with help from Betty Burkland, Anne Lindsley, Gail Phillips, and Kerrie Supanich. We are all being welcomed by both event organizations and will have special credentials and perhaps t-shirts. Will we see you there? If you will not be able to attend any event, autographed books can be ordered right here, right now!
Single copies are $29.50 postage paid via media mail.
